Spanish needed? - Jobs in Montreal?

Hey I'm thinking of moving to Montreal in spring 2008. I have a few friends living there as well as my sister. I am bilingual but my second language is Spanish, NOT French. I was wondering what my job options are (High school graduate) or if there are jobs that look for spanish speakers.

The jobs I've heard of for english speakers are a typing job for the deaf and a call center job.

Anything would help...English job options too. Thank you, Merci... gracias :)

Spanish needed? - Jobs in Montreal?
Spanish speakers not so much as far as unilingual English speakers there is not to much options, call centers who hire only English speakers, hmmm, perhaps as a nanny, working in a hotel as a maid although even that is iffy. Try areas of Westmount, N.D.G and Montreal West and Cote St. Luc. Might try the West Island too. Perhaps factory work. Sorry, not to many options wish I could think of more!
Reply:I arrivede this year but I only speak Spanish and English and I could say that most all the jobs require french speakers.NOw, i have no job. It's better to start with the french or look for other places where only English is necessary. Good luck! Report It

Reply:You will be considered unilingual. Spanish isn't a requirement for most jobs. French is absolutely necessary in all jobs dealing with the public. Call centers might consider you but French and English is a basic requirement. Sometimes they ask for perfectly bilingual which is French and English + Spanish but it's rare.
Reply:I don't say you will use Spanish very much in Montreal. This city is largely french with english as second language followed by a multitude of other languages/dialects.

There is a small spanish community but jobs in spanish are probably non existant.

You should have no problems with an English job although any jobs dealing with the public will require fluent french.

There is such thing as a language law and believe it or not a "language police" but don't let that deter you from moving, Montreal is a vibrant community and I am sure you would fit right in. If you have learned spanish it is only a small jump to french. You should have no problem learning the basics.

Good luck / Bonne chance
Reply:Hola. Not that many.. I was there for a while and i could not apply to a better job because my french was not good enough.

There are areas of the city like Westmount where english is mainly spoken and you might have more chances to get a job there.

Saludos
