Which of these jobs would be easier, which one should I pick?

I got offered 2 jobs

First job is it is a telemarketing/customer service job at a call center that involves inputting phone card minutes into peoples accoutns %26amp; talking up sales pitches

The other is a retail job, dollar tree to be exact, sounds kind of lame but it will be my first retail job,

Dollar store job is right down the block, the call center job is roughly 25 - 30 miles away.

WHich would you pick?

I really want the first job since I have experience in marketing anyways. The thing is they literally just informed me about the oppourtunity a few hours ago, whereas I already interviewed for the second job and they want to hire me, they just didn't give me a definitive answer.

Which of these jobs would be easier, which one should I pick?
First of all, take the job that is offered first to make sure you do end up with a job. Do not turn one down waiting for an official job offer that may not come.

If you like the idea of working at the call center, will you earn enough money to pay for the transportation costs? You will be spending $6 or $7 dollars per day in just gasoline to get to work, not counting the travel time that you will be using out of your day, at least an hour per day.

Stop and think what your goals are for your immediate future (6 months from now) and your longer term future (two years from now). Is the call center a place you will want to be in the future? Do you want to work in retail or customer service?

Take two pieces of paper. Write down the good and bad things about each job. Set it aside overnight. Look at it again with a rested mind. See which of these two jobs has the most good things with the fewest bad things.

I am betting that you have career goals that go beyond the retail job or the call center. Think about which job will be the best to get you were you want to be in the future, like which job will be better to have while attending school.

I am not going to say which job I would rather do as that is not really important, though I have done both. Good Luck!
Reply:i would pick telemarket/customer service because if you got another job you would want a good record of where you worked

And alot of Dollar tree stores get robbed
Reply:I don't know what you should pick, but here are some questions that I would consider if I were in your position.

Does the call center job pay enough to make your commute worthwhile? 25 - 30 miles each way is 50 to 60 miles a day. you could be looking at $10 per day or more in fuel expenses alone with this job. Now add on your additional after work and weekend driving. You could be spending lots of your incoime on gas. Also, when you work that far from home, you tend to eat out more so that is an additional expense.

For both jobs, what shifts will you have to work? Will they be compatible with your lifestyle and needs? Will you have some daytime free time that will enable you to go look for another job when you get tired of this one?

What will you be able to learn at each job? At the call center, will you really get to practice good customer service, or will you work from a script? There is a big difference. At $-tree will you be able to work your way toward really understanding what it takes to run a retail store or will you just stock shelves? If you get the chance to really help with things like scheduling staff, ordering inventory, and evaluating your store's results, you will gain good experience that you can put on a resume. I would pick the job where I felt I would get the greatest opportunity to gain knowledge I could use at my next employer.

Are you willing to give up more than an hour a day of your personal time to drive back and forth to work? I consider my commute unpaid work time and factor that in when I calculate my true rate of pay per work hour...

Good luck in your decision
