Why are certain jobs looked down upon by so many people?

For example, a job bagging groceries and bringing shopping carts in, although it does not pay much, gives plenty of opportunity for good exercise, for helping people, for socializing, and for good, honest hard work. However, even though many people are unable to handle such a job for any length of time, and even though it requires much effort and hard work, many people still look "down" on such a job. The same is true with, for example, restaurant jobs.

So, are people just jealous that they can't handle such a job, or what? I know many restaurant workers and grocery baggers are not very good workers and can even be quite lazy, but I am talking about those that actually do work hard at such jobs (not the lazy ones, but the hard workers). Why are they still looked "down" as if everyone else is better than them even though they work hard and do good work in such jobs?

I see what you mean. I think blue collar men are the sexiest and manliest myself. I dont like metrosexual primadonnas. The blue collar man is where its at. It is looked down upon until one of these snoots need to actually do the work themselves, then they will have all the respect in the world. Nothing better than to see a man or woman taking on such a job to support thier kids not worrying about their image. These are the truly strong people of our world and need much respect. God Bless them and you.
Reply:Thank you for addressing this issue which I have thought about myself. I even say the people doing the dirty jobs should be paid double what the people sitting in their office chairs do. It seems so unfair. Manual Labor should be paid the most. Report It

Reply:Because our society is composed of shallow creeps for the most part.

Personally, I applaud the efforts of someone who would go through a day of hard work to support themselves. It sure beats going through welfare like a lot of scumbags do.
Reply:No one should look down on a person because of his job. What would happen if we didn't have grocery baggers? Or barbers? Or garbage collectors? Each job has a vital role to play in our society. Without these people our lives would be one hell of a mess.

People look down on these jobs because of ignorance and biases. They should, instead, look down on people who don't want to accept these jobs even though they are jobless.

Peace and blessings!
